Extreme heat and wildfires often occur simultaneously, resulting in compounding impacts for municipalities. Municipalities commonly use urban greening to reduce heat, while FireSmart landscaping minimizes wildfire risk—but their trade-offs have received limited attention. My research examined how municipalities plan for these hazards through landscape management policy mechanisms, and the presence and types of trade-offs. To support municipalities in building multi-hazard urban resilience, we propose a framework to identify trade-offs and call for more equitable and collaborative multi-hazard planning processes.
