ANANAS Lab

Advancing New Approaches and Narratives Around Sustainability

The ANANAS Lab carries out research within the fields of governance and planning, and sustainability transitions (socio- technical) and transformations (socio-ecological) under the direction of Dr. Andréanne Doyon. This type of work involves interdisciplinary approaches, integrating insights across social and natural sciences to propose comprehensive solutions for more equitable and resilience communities.

Andréanne’s students came up with the acronym ANANAS, Advancing New Approaches and Narratives Around Sustainability, to describe the broad research focus of the lab. (Also, ‘ananas’ is French for pineapple, the meaning of which is tied to Andréanne’s Québecois roots).

Current and recent research within the ANANAS Lab includes land use regulation for climate risk; planning for extreme heat in relation to wildfire risk, and water availability; Indigenous-settler planning for nature-based solutions; municipal-led community energy; energy transitions, extraction, and Indigenous self-determination.
